Revocatory again or why some Venezuelans never learn

When I heard again the expression " revocatory of Maduro" I could not believe it. Not only because we had already tried it twice before a few million more Venezuelans left the country (the first time with Chávez in 2004 and the second time with Maduro in 2016), but also because the figure of the recall was the very reason for the existence of the current fraudulent electoral system of the regime, whose debut we had in 2004. Venezuelans must remember that we began a long struggle with deaths, prisoners, exiles, economic destruction, and all the plagues that have befallen us with the Castro-Chavism-Madurism.

SmartMatic machines were born with the word "revocatory" in Venezuela. However, it seems that some Venezuelans have not yet learned that bloody lesson. Even some notable lawyers, strangely accommodating, even consider it "legally valid" as a formula to be applied to Maduro to get out of his regime. And I ask myself, where were those people in 2004? Or in 2016, when some courts in Apure, Aragua, Bolivar and Carabobo decided to suspend the recall process when "criminal complaints filed by the ruling party against the collection of signatures in April were admitted for processing"? (see in Spanish, Venezuela: El CNE paraliza referendo revocatorio a Nicolás Maduro, in  https://www.bbc.com/mundo/noticias-america-latina-37723172).

I can understand that Guaidó and his boys have been, due to their young age, far from duly understanding what Venezuelans went through with the Firmazo, the Reafirmazo, the "flat signatures" and the Reparos in 2004. Remember that Guaidó was only 15 years old when Chávez arrived in 1998 and 20 years old when Venezuelans started a hard crusade to get rid of Chávez with the votes. We were far away at that time from imagining that more than 20 years later we would still be talking about this and even less that someone would have a mind twisted enough to openly cheat the mechanism of political weights and counterweights that guarantees the political stability of a country, which is none other than its electoral system. But the common Venezuelan learned after much blood spilled in the streets that the regime that scourges us will not stop at electoral trifles to remain in power.

Why then do we still have to hear again the expression " revocatory of Maduro"? Indeed, the figure is in the Constitution, as it was in 2004 and 2016. What changed here, what did we Venezuelans miss? Imagine how difficult the regime made it to raise the 20% of signatures needed to recall him in 2016, even though millions of active Venezuelans who have already left the country were still in Venezuela. Do you remember that in 2016 the machines only opened at specific hours and when they were enabled there was no line or the machine was damaged? And the impressive queues of those who, keeping hope, attended this farce, believing in the "democratic" of the regime? I get goose bumps just remembering it. But apparently the proponents of this new "chronicle of a death foretold" do not remember that.

But what is most impressive is the U.S. government's position on this proposal, as stated by its ambassador, James Story. (see in Spanish, "Gobierno de Estados Unidos apoyaría un revocatorio contra Maduro", in https://youtu.be/7AADShLJukM). As I mentioned in my previous note, the Americans are pragmatic. Anything that comes out, no matter how absurd it is, that lowers the pressure on them from Venezuela is welcome because it is a possibility for the "Venezuelan problem" to stay within their borders. But that is not a solution for Venezuelans. Staying with Maduro is not an option. And we must insist with them that the Venezuelan solution cannot be only for the International Community but for those of us who live in this country. Hence, the spectrum of solutions to propose to the United States is by no means complete yet. But let us look at this new "recall" proposal in more detail.

The mere fact of initiating again a constitutional recall process against Nicolás Maduro Moros, admits without a doubt that his presidency is legitimate as well as the electoral institution that received such request. It admits Maduro as President, who is not, but a usurper. It admits the legitimacy of the National Assembly that appointed that new CNE. And with the admission of the CNE's legitimacy, the "veracity" of the Electoral Registry on which the number of signatures required for the call to this supposed new revocatory will be based is also admitted.

The Venezuelan Electoral Registry is flawed. Chávez, Maduro and Tibisay Lucena took care of that. Many technical studies have proven it conclusively, and for proof a button: "This conclusion leads us to once again highlight the crucial question, where are the 19 million voters that the CNE and the government proclaim in the official figures? In other words, the conclusion is obvious, the voting population should not be higher than 11 million validly registered voters. The answer to this question is tremendous, there are more than 6 million voters left over in the electoral registry, which ratifies once again that the registry is useless, that it is hypertrophied and has been manipulated by the CNE in fraudulent actions..." (see in Spanish, Democracia y Elecciones en Venezuela, by Genaro Mosquera Castellanos, Pág. 46, https://tinyurl.com/mwwxdezy).

Knowing this, on what number will the 20% required by Article 72 of the Constitution for a new call to revoke the alleged usurper's mandate be based? On the 19 million that they have always said they have in the RE, which is already inflated by more than 6 million virtual voters, or on a much smaller number after the more than 5 million Venezuelans who have fled into exile fleeing the country's misfortune and the other 6 million that do not exist because they are virtual? Because obviously there would be less signatures required. The answer to that will tell you how interested the regime is in accepting a new recall before the International Community to respond to this new request of those who apparently have not yet learned the bloody lesson that the majority of Venezuelans assimilated by participating without the CNE of the regime in the Popular Consultation from December 7 to 12, 2020.

The regime will gladly accept this revocatory proposal because with it, that "opposition" that has forgotten what has happened in Venezuela, will give them a bottle of oxygen that will last for many months, because if they lose it, either because they cannot activate it as in 2016, or because the CNE of the regime does the same as it did in 2004, they will add to the troop of scorpions that in one way or another have recognized the regime as a legitimate government. They will say again that "they were wrong" and the Venezuelan people will be even more screwed. Sorry for the bad French but that is how it is....

I would like to assume that those who are promoting this supposed "alternative" are clear on that reality and are not naïve in politics. Venezuelans should ask themselves why they are doing it. Again, there are no naïve people in politics, but I must point out that there is an ethical issue involved in the matter. Just out of a minimum of consideration for all the dead, disappeared, prisoners, tortured, exiled and constantly threatened, no one should dare to disrespect the millions of Venezuelans who put their hopes in the first two revocatory elections and worked at the risk of their lives with the tools of democracy and who failed because they were faced with a deceitful regime of thugs and criminals capable of anything. It is as if that Venezuelan woman who made the effort to cross the Rio Grande on shoulders to enter the United States, when she arrived half dead at the other shore, they were waiting for her to beat her up and expel her. Those who propose this initiative are playing the role of those who know what will happen on the other side and still propose the trip, excusing themselves later that each one has made his or her own decision. There should also be ethics and morals in what is being proposed after all that the people of Venezuela have suffered to oust the regime.

Venezuelans must not only evaluate in detail the proposals made to get out of the regime, but also those who propose them and analyze why they do so. It is we Venezuelans who are at risk here, not the proponents. At this point, there are many people interested in this situation continuing, looking for spaces where they can stay after the tragedy by using us for their 15 minutes of notoriety and fame. Neither revocatory for a usurper, nor regional elections called by an illegitimate National Assembly and CNE. The people have already decided in a Popular Consultation the way forward: Maduro and his regime must leave immediately for this country to have reconstruction, peace and freedom. We will continue working to enforce the mandate of the Venezuelan people.
