Street primaries

Almost a decade ago, in August 2013, my esteemed professor and friend, Agustín Blanco Muñoz, of the Pío Tamayo Chair at the UCV, introduced the concept "Street Constituent", trying to signify the necessary popular participation that this instrument should have, as far away as possible from the corrupt institutionality of the regime through its CNE, transferring its execution to the organized civil society.

Unfortunately, in spite of the multiple explanations that we gave afterwards, that it was the sovereign people itself that should decide without intermediaries the destiny of the Nation through an Original Constituent process, it is still the time that Venezuelans have remained stuck in the traditional way, selecting the opposition candidate through a system of primaries, to settle the power in Venezuela in presidential elections, against a tyranny that has said countless times that it will not abandon power under any circumstances, and even less in elections.

And since the power in Venezuela, since its creation as a Nation, is defined by whoever controls the Executive Power, that is, the President of the Republic, any alternative solution to settle the political situation of the country, and even more surprisingly, the one that directly invokes the Popular Sovereignty through its legitimate representatives, has been consistently rejected by those who call themselves democrats.

However, the "street" characterization of a decade ago continues to suggest that it is the people themselves who will decide. And that is what will end up happening in Venezuela, one way or another, as we will see below.

The funnel that is being imposed on Venezuelans through primaries in the deplorable conditions presented by the opposition parties, where only a small minority that still feels represented by them will participate, despised as they are by the rest of Venezuelans due to the disaster they have incurred, which includes open collaborationism, betrayal of the interests of Venezuelans and generalized corruption, will generate an "opposition" candidate in the likeness of that minority and who will claim to "represent" the rest of the country that justifiably rejects the opposition, betrayal of the interests of Venezuelans and generalized corruption, will generate an "opposition" candidate in the likeness of that minority and who will claim to "represent" the rest of the country that justifiably rejects the so-called Unitary Platform that organized that process. This is a nonsense that must be rejected by all of us who do not feel represented by anyone who participates in this circus.

And you will say, and then, how will we find the standard bearer who will participate with the regime in elections that will surely be rigged in its favor? Again, the Venezuelan people will decide, and why? Because if Venezuelans participate in this primary process, an opposition candidate will emerge from it, which will give Nicolás Maduro Moros the necessary arguments to face the International Community and publicly affirm that this presidential election is legitimate because an authentic representation of the opposition participated, in spite of the intrinsic minority of that result. Hence, the people would decide the course of events with their participation or not in the primaries.

If, on the contrary, the Venezuelan people DO NOT participate in those primaries, in accordance with what is actually happening in Venezuela, in relation to the null representation that the official opposition holds of Venezuelans, the candidate that emerges from those primaries would not have the necessary support of the majority of the opposition people, and would be doing a disservice to the country if he insists on running against the regime in a presidential election, which, being effectively fraudulent, would not have the necessary support to collect an eventual triumph.

Therefore, the people do have a say in what is about to happen in Venezuela, and that is the reason why the concept of "street primaries", which, just as we wielded it at the time for the Constituent Assembly, applies perfectly to the political situation currently being experienced in the country.

Up to now, there is no person who, in practice, embodies the majority feeling of Venezuelans to displace the regime, including the candidates to whom the polls attribute the majority in the primaries. That person, who has not yet appeared, must come out into the public arena as soon as possible and start to be decided with the rest of the participants, in a sort of "street primaries", which will define the necessary majority support of the opposition people and which will be immediately appreciated. And once this indisputable situation is noticed, the rest of the contenders will have to abandon their aspirations in favor of him.

That would be the true opposition primary that will decide the contender of the regime, having the palpable support of the population in the streets, and not a primary of the empty shells that still pretend to represent us.

But the story does not end there. The regime is not a fool and there is still a long way to go. A candidate of the characteristics described above must have sufficient specific stature and proven experience of ethical, personal, professional and State life, capable of attracting the attention of the International Community, which, since it has decided that Venezuela must get out of its political problem through a presidential electoral process, must consequently show itself in favor, not only in words but in deeds so that all Venezuelans may participate without the limitations imposed by the regime of Nicolás Maduro Moros.

That presidential candidate will have to compete knowing that the regime will cheat the results, and will have the obligation to outline a plan of what to do when the evidence of fraud is a fact. In other words, the candidate would not compete for the votes of Venezuelans -which in fact he/she already has since before the campaign because nobody wants the continuity of the regime- but for those votes to actually become effective. Note that here changes radically, and from now on, the profile that such candidate must have. That is, it cannot be just anyone. We are looking for a person whose profile is defined according to the objective we intend to achieve, from front to back, if we want this campaign to be successful for Venezuelans.

If we Venezuelans manage to find that character, capable of inspiring to the core the feelings of change and recovery of this Nation, there will be no possible force that will stop the majority of Venezuelans who desire a change in the situation of the country, with the right person at the helm. In this way we would balance this unequal struggle that has brought misfortune to the noble people of Venezuela....
