What happened to the Popular Consultation

It is incredible that at this point in time some Venezuelans are still asking themselves, "What happened to the December 2020 Popular Consultation?” I wish to assume that Dr. Blanca Rosa Mármol de León, favorite target of the attack of many who in an interested manner wish, several months after that event occurred, to dismiss and destroy a unique effort of Venezuelans that has no comparison with anything that has been done before in that matter in Venezuela, not even the Popular Consultation held on July 16, 2017. The siege has been so much, especially to Dr. Mármol that she had to make a video to tell Venezuela what in her opinion had happened with the Popular Consultation of December 2020 (see video in Spanish of BRML, ¿Qué pasó con la Consulta Popular de Diciembre 2020?, in  https://youtu.be/wsY7y09uMlA). I must say that I fully support Dr. Blanca Rosa Mármol de León's message to the Nation.

Many have taken this message in a pessimistic way and some have wrongly used it to misinterpret the effort made by hundreds of Venezuelans before, during and after the Popular Consultation. They wrongly interpret that "since the interim government did not support the result of the Popular Consultation" the effort was vain and useless. Big mistake! I am convinced that people still do not understand why the Popular Consultation was held, in spite of the explanations that I myself have given through this media and also Dr. Blanca Rosa Mármol de León in multiple interventions and interviews to the media. I imagine that Dr. Mármol, already obstinate from so much twitter blaming her that the regime did not fall the other day of the consultation, made that video, indicating a reality that we have already exposed publicly. What she said has already been repeated countless times: the interim government IGNORED the popular mandate through its international representation. But THAT DOES NOT MEAN AT ANY TIME that this mandate is not still in force and pending execution.

In fact, it was for this very reason that ANCO mobilized in defense of the mandate and proposed the Citizens' Pact for Constitutional and Democratic Restoration. (see full text of the Pact in Spanish at https://ancoficial.blogspot.com/2021/02/comunicado-anco-acta-que-contiene-el.html), calling the Venezuelan civil society to unite with the sole purpose of initiating a struggle for the fulfillment of this Consultation and also for the Popular Consultation of 2017. WE ARE ALL VENEZOLANS the mourners of this country, not only Dr. Blanca Rosa Mármol de León. She as well as all of us in ANCO are every day inventing how we will do so that this mandate is fulfilled.

But beyond that, the Popular Consultation SERVED TO FORMALLY AND CONSTITUTIONALLY ESTABLISH THAT THE VENEZOLAN PEOPLE AGREED that the regime should first separate itself from power (Cessation of Usurpation) in order to proceed with free, fair and verifiable elections of the Public Powers (1st Question). It served to ILLEGITIMIZE the spurious parliament of the regime whose illegitimate elections were held on December 6, 2020 (2nd Question); and most importantly THAT THE PEOPLE GIVE EVERY VENEZOLAN A LETTER OF AUTHORIZATION TO ACT, with whatever help they can get, WHATEVER IT TAKES TO GET OUT OF THE REGIME (3rd Question).

We are already acting on the basis of this mandate with the Citizen Conferences established in the Pact and the proposal to call for a Constituent Election that came out of the Pact (see in Spanish, El Consejo Rector de la Conferencia Ciudadana propone un nuevo proceso de negociación a la Nación y a la Comunidad Internacional, in https://ancoficial.blogspot.com/2021/07/el-consejo-rector-de-la-conferencias.html). If anyone is still unclear as to what the December 2020 Popular Consultation was for, simply forward this note to them and I will gladly clarify any doubts they may have regarding this issue.

Certainly, the first one that should have complied with the mandate of the Popular Consultation was the Government in Charge itself, which initially proposed it in the Pact signed by 37 parties on September 7, 2020. If they did not comply with it, they will have to pay for that omission when the time comes. In the meantime, the rest of Venezuelans have a MANDATE TO FULFILL. And instead of asking what happened with the Consultation, EVERYONE MUST START WORKING TO REMOVE THE REGIME in their national or international sphere of action. We in ANCO and the Conferences for the Constitutional and Democratic Reestablishment are already doing our part in order to gather wills for this endeavor. The rest already have a clear mandate to do so.

It never ceases to attract my attention that all the criticisms and attacks made on the issue of the Popular Consultation have focused on the figure of Dr. Blanca Rosa Mármol de León. And this makes a certain sense if we place ourselves in the context of how politics is done in Venezuela. In our country those who claim to do politics do not confront ideas but the person who transmits them. If they consider the message dangerous for their interests, they immediately criticize the person who carries it. Dr. Mármol is one of the most visible and emblematic figures of an idea of deep change in the country. Her mere presence conveys decency in public affairs. And that cannot be tolerated in a country full of thieves and criminals of all kinds, and especially in politics. Unable to attack a strong idea such as the expression of Popular Sovereignty, the attack is focused on the fact that Dr. Mármol "lied to us" because she "promised" that Maduro would fall after the Consultation and that did not happen, trying to discredit her image, her word and her message to the Venezuelan people.

This is the type of strategy commonly used to put on the wall of social networks someone "inconvenient" when what it is really about is to neutralize someone who according to them could dispute something very coveted in our country: power. Many see Dr. Mármol's image in a dangerous way and echo smear campaigns, the last one being the malicious question "what happened with the Popular Consultation of December 2020" when in reality that is what interests them the least.

I would like to remind them of the phrase attributed to former Venezuelan President Antonio Guzmán Blanco: "Venezuela is like a dried leather, you step on it on one side and it rises on the other". In ANCO the PROJECT that we promote for our country is the main figure, not any particular person. However, for a Project to be credible as something good and necessary for society and the country, it must be promoted by people of the ethical and moral stature of Dr. Blanca Rosa Mármol de León, because if they saw something good there for the country, then it must be good.

Dr. Mármol is accompanied in this ANCO crusade for the improvement and change of Venezuela by people of the highest moral solvency from all corners of Venezuela, conscious of the political need for a Great Change for our country and to turn the institutions around. And let me tell you that this cannot be done with the ethical and moral quality of the current political leadership, that is a truth bigger than a cathedral. Draw your own conclusions. The people who have pressured Dr. Mármol demanding her to answer "what happened with the Popular Consultation?", which carries within it how much we Venezuelans have taken on this struggle, should look at themselves in a mirror, because the answer will be found there....
