The faith of Florentino

Perhaps the following sentence may sound harsh to you for tonight being Christmas Eve: Venezuelans have not fully realized that the situation we are living now is only comparable to another in the history of the country: the War of Independence. Only in these two periods has there been a vital struggle for freedom.

Some will say that in the past struggles against the dictatorships of the past, Venezuelans also fought for freedom. That is true, but on those occasions there was no struggle against external forces for the liberation of our country as there was during Independence against Spanish colonialism, and at present against Cuban, Chinese, Russian and Iranian colonialism. It could well be said, respecting of course the distances, that the problem we have of independence and struggle for freedom is much more complex than in the past, although the prostration is similar.

And this harsh comparison leads me to affirm that if in the past we counted on the genius of El Libertador, we now find ourselves practically alone for a fight that requires a level of leadership similar to or greater than that given by Bolivar to the war for the Independence of Venezuela.

This reflection came to my mind when I listened to Enrique Colmenares Finol, Coordinator of the Organizing Committee of the Popular Consultation appointed by the National Assembly and National Coordinator of the ANCO, swear to respect the mandate that the Venezuelan people gave at the Popular Consultation in his speech presenting the final results on December 21 (see in Spanish Un Juramento por Venezuela, in https://youtu.be/VUN5eAgnQYA). This oath was shared by the rest of us at ANCO in our statement of the same name (see Juramento por Venezuela, in https://ancoficial.blogspot.com/2020/12/cado-anco-juramento-por-venezuela-23-12.html).

Some did not understand the reason for that ANCO oath and there may be a reason for that. And it is because some still do not realize what I mentioned at the beginning of this note, where in the absence of a Simon Bolivar, we Venezuelans will have to bring out among all that genius that achieved the Independence of Venezuela. And much more...

And this is not simple populist rhetoric. No. It is the realization of the reality of what has happened in these last 20 years of continuous errors that have sunk us more and more into the most debased and deepest hole of socialist misery. Never has humanity seen such a high level of hyperinflation in any country, just to give an example, and that those responsible are still there. Not even after humanity's most terrible wars.

But mistakes are still being made. Minimizing the favorable response of the Venezuelan people to the Popular Consultation and denying its political impact at the international level does a disservice to the cause of freedom for Venezuelans. But that is the response of an opposition political class that now the whole world is seeing naked. If this had been the case, the response would have been just as positive and great: imagine 6.4 million! And the 10 million we wanted were not achieved because of all the problems I have already described in these notes. But they are still real and valid, and that is why they must be respected. Unfortunately they had the opportunity to wield that result in favor of the cause of freedom and they did not do so. That will have a cost that sooner or later they will have to assume.

This leaves us with only one path: to do it ourselves from civil society with the help of those who wish to support us from the political sector. The first priority of Venezuelans expressed in this clear demonstration of Popular Sovereignty is to leave the regime of Nicolás Maduro Moros. If it were to be taken as a survey and not as it actually is, a mandate, any politician with two fingers on the pulse would be working to make it effective just to accompany what the majority wants. No poll works with samples of such caliber. What are these people playing at then?

ANCO's communiqué "Oath for Venezuela" describes the legal support of those of us who are starting to take the path to make this popular mandate effective, based on Article 333 of the Constitution. We will take these results and we will make them worth above any policy that is intended to be applied in the country without having left the usurpation. Do not dress up those who pretend to make elections of any kind in Venezuela with Maduro in power. Those of us who demonstrated in that Popular Consultation will be the first to ignore it. We will not let those results be forgotten.

A Child was born today 2020 years ago in spite of the persecution of those who wanted him dead. God's truth prevailed and His will was done in the hearts of all, bringing faith to a people who had lost it. It is a good time to remember that it is that Christian faith that we must invoke here. The faith in ourselves that we can overcome this problem no matter how big it is, becoming all together an improved version of The Liberator to regain the freedom of Venezuela. It is Florentino's faith in Alberto Arvelo Torrealba's very Venezuelan poem, who was able to impose himself on Satan by invoking God's supernatural powers and all Venezuelan Virgins (in Spanish):

That's the faith of the Venezuelan! Get me out of here with God! And it's amazing how it works when it's invoked from the heart. And that's what we did when we swore by Venezuela. We are a noble people in spite of all our defects. We have given confidence to those who do not deserve it. It is time for the shield, the grill and the dagger of Saint Michael, to confront Satan. And with faith, the Child God who is born today will take us out of here...Merry Christmas to all!
