It has been no secret to anyone that from this modest tribune of the network I have been in disagreement with any electoral process as a solution to the problem that the militarized narco-tyranny of Nicolás Maduro Moros has represented for Venezuela. Consequently, and in transitional logic, with any intermediate process that delays -once again- Venezuelans to organize themselves in a consistent civil resistance, seeking a unified and coherent formula for a frontal struggle against tyranny until it falls. Such delay will surely bring us a new disappointment, as the circus mounted by the official opposition around the primary elections is already doing.
Some consider this statement pessimistic. For my part, I insist on calling it realistic, not only because of the inexistence of the usual conditions to go to an electoral process under the control of the one we intend to displace, but also because practically all that "opposition" ceased to be so a long time ago, either because they were bought or because their aspirations do not go beyond a limited coexistence that allows them to survive well and luxuriously, in the middle of the dreadful tragedy of the country.
However, this was the unfortunate route - in my opinion uninformed and full of interests - chosen by the International Community and by those in Venezuela who wish to coexist with the regime, supported by the Joint Declaration on Venezuela of June 25, 2021 (see U.S.-EU-Canada: Joint Statement on Venezuela, in https://www.state.gov/u-s-eu-canada-joint-statement-on-venezuela/), and subsequently reaffirmed by the signatories to the "Summary of the High-Level Coordination Meeting on Venezuela". (see official U.S. publication in https://www.state.gov/readout-of-the-high-level-coordination-meeting-on-venezuela/) on February 15, 2022.
This has gotten us into an endless and toxic electoral discussion, making the opposition agenda of Venezuelans not to go beyond thinking about which will be the pre-candidate "to get rid of Maduro", placing the regime in a position of advantage without having started the fight. It is really frustrating and depressing, especially if it is believed that all this, from its own root, will not solve the serious problem we Venezuelans have.
Whatever the result of the so-called opposition primaries may be, it will pass, whether they want it or not, through the regime's CNE and the TSJ, making the candidate that finally results, conform to their decisions, because it is the regime that is in the position of deciding with whom to measure itself. Is it so difficult to understand that reasoning? If we are in a tyranny, as we indeed claim to be, that is the correct reasoning.
But apparently the Venezuelan opposition forgot that. In the next few days, the new CNE Rectors will be appointed with the expected pro-government result in its entirety. Yesterday, one of those of the so-called "opposition" resigned, and soon it will be the turn of the last one, so that the Nominating Committee of the illegitimate NA may appoint the 5 at once. The regime, through this new NEC, will not let any ball pass where the presidential election is involved, starting with the "self-managed" process of the official opposition candidate.
And we on the opposition side, naively hoping for two miracles to happen: 1) that the candidacy of the radical option becomes effective over the "opposition" pre-candidates related to the regime, and 2) that in 2024 we achieve a victory over the tyranny with a flawed Electoral Registry and machines controlled under its conditions.
If to this is added the demonstrated desire of the International Community to legitimize the regime, to "end the annoying problem of the Venezuelan exodus", Venezuelans will have completed the aspirations of the tyranny. And please do not misunderstand me. It's not that I don't want those miracles to be fulfilled. It is that we have no basis to expect them to happen, knowing the predictable behavior of the tyranny.
I have always thought that Venezuelans can carry out projects that seem impossible. And ending Maduro's militarized narco tyranny is one of them. Just look at what some compatriots have done in the world. But to achieve this incredible miracle we must start at the beginning, realistically putting our feet on the ground, calling a spade a spade and wine a wine, planning this mega-project with all that it implies. That at least would be the first step to get out of the fantasy in which we desperately want to believe...
