The year 2021 ends without a clear progress in the route of the Cessation of Usurpation-Transitional Government-Free Elections, fundamental promise of the Interim Government of Juan Guaidó Marquez since his investiture as President in Charge of the Republic in January 2019. Marches and countermarches that resulted in two defining modifications to the Statute of the Transition, in a clear sign that the political parties of the official opposition will never let go of the control of the Executive-in-Charge, despite all the criticism from the so-called national country, which sends a clear message to Venezuelans that their problem is not to free Venezuela from a tyranny but to remain miserably sunk in the little power and spaces left to them by the regime to survive. The outlook for the end of this year could not be more pitiful.
However, I do not wish to say goodbye to this year without at least giving a light at the end of a tunnel that we have not yet built. And you may ask me, how are we going to see light at the end of something that does not exist? This popular expression that is used to continue working for a hope of going through a long path of darkness, stumbling around until we finally see a light that indicates that we are leaving this path, presupposes a tunnel already built that already has a pre-established direction and an exit that we will not find until that light appears.
Well, no, if we are still lost inside that dark tunnel after so many years we will never get out because those who built it did not put a way out, therefore, no matter how much we go through it we will never see a light. Those who made it twice modified a route that has already faded from the imagination of Venezuelans because those who should have insisted on it forgot about us who were inside.
So for next year I invite you to build another tunnel. But to do that we must be clear which direction to take into the darkness, and among all of us who dig it we must fervently believe in it. Only in this way will we be able to find our way out and create for ourselves that light. We will see the light in that tunnel but only if we build it ourselves.
The route of the Cessation of Usurpation first, Transitional Government later and Free Elections at the end, is something that has a solid logic that goes beyond all the political mumbo-jumbo invented by the parties to delay it, forget it or bury it in a bunch of legal jargon written in a Statute of the Transition, with all the changes they wish to make to it. The logic of the people is of an indisputable solidity and this was endorsed in a Popular Consultation held more than a year ago today, from December 7 to 12, 2021, a decision of a people determined to achieve their freedom, and which a year ago today I called The last institutionality we have left (see my note of December 31, 2020, in https://ticsddhh.blogspot.com/p/the-last-institutionality-we-have-left.html).
I was not wrong a year ago to mention that we had gone backwards: "But beyond what the deputies have just done to remain in force after January 5, 2021, and the consequent extension of Juan Guaidó's mandate as Acting President, I consider more important how the opposition struggle will develop in the course of 2021 by not having a fully functioning National Assembly as this year, or worse, with a functioning in question, and a mediatized Acting President. In the net in both areas we have regressed with respect to the year closing today. This leaves Venezuela with only one card to play: the role to be played by citizens not vested with authority to regain their freedom in 2021".
That statement of a year ago is now more powerful and valid than ever, and that is why I invite Venezuelans to change the course and direction by building another tunnel for 2022. The parties will start another year repeating and deepening the mistakes they made in 2020 without having learned anything in 2021 with the corrected and increased reedition of the mistakes made with the Statute of the Transition, with a line that will fail again in 2022 due to the Einsteinian madness of insisting on the same thing with the same results, in a suicidal insistence to control what they cannot control due to the very concept of the Constitutional separation of the Public Powers and the unity of command. Only ONE can be responsible, and that is none other than the President we gave ourselves Constitutionally in January 2019 and who must be accountable. Otherwise we will never see that light we expect because the only one who is winning here is the regime.
The parties are without oxygen and the worst part of the picture is that they are drowning us with them because they insist on a solution that does not include the people they claim to represent. In the 21st Century they believe in the electoral practices where they manipulated the people to elect them believing that this would stay there until they renewed their cards again in the following elections. You must understand that this is over. Technology follows them minute by minute through the networks, people know what they do and what they really think. Hence, these so-called Stalinian structures, which are more than 100 years old, no longer stand the test of time. Any solution to the Venezuelan crisis must take into account the Venezuelan people.
And if this is not given way, it will break the walls of indifference sooner or later. Then the problem is how to get the people to pronounce themselves in order to make the corresponding decisions. In ANCO we have insisted in the direction of calling the people to decide through the only instrument left to the Constitution, which is none other than the Constituent Assembly. Many could point to other paths for many reasons, as indeed they are doing by continuing to walk in the same tunnel, but the one that we cannot all refute is that the people are the only ones who can make the decisions to get out of this plague that has befallen us since 1998, and all we have to do is to agree on how to give it a channel in the midst of a tyranny. What we cannot do is to argue about the fundamental principle that the people should be the ones to decide.
And I believe that all Venezuelans have agreed, in one way or another, that it is the people who must decide. Two massive Popular Consultations are the irrefutable proof of this, even though the opposition political leadership has turned its back on them. Let the people decide! is and will continue to be our slogan for the coming year. If we really want 2022 to be the year of Venezuela's liberation, we have to follow the path that the people decided. And if the tunnel we are going through does not lead us to that light, then let's make another one in the middle of the darkness. Let's just decide which tools we use by following the direction the people gave themselves to get to it faster. God will be our guide and companion in that new tunnel we will dig for this New Year of the Lord 2022.
