By Luis Manuel Aguana
Many friends have called me to know my opinion regarding the news of the person chosen by María Corina Machado (MCM) to replace her in the regime's elections. And that opinion I had already expressed in a recent program two days before that event took place, in the program of journalist José Domingo Blanco "Arrímate al Mingo", in his YouTube channel MingoTeVe. You can watch the complete interview uncut from my channel (see in Spanish Interview to Dr. Luis Manuel Aguana - Elecciones mal paridas - 20-03-2024, in https://youtu.be/rjQ4eWnKaZA?si=6UWuyzPL66jCNEyg).
Indeed, I did not need to know the name of the person chosen by the candidate because that is not the core of the problem we are facing for the electoral event that the regime invented as a substitute -and that is the important substitution- for the elections agreed with the Unitary Platform in Barbados.
For the understanding of all, the regime, cornered with an International Community against it, agrees in Barbados with the internationally recognized official opposition, a game, let's say for our example, a baseball game, with two teams, umpires and clearly defined rules. This agreement is signed on October 17, 2023, a few days before the opposition primary elections, which took place on October 22 (see in Spanish Barbados Agreement of 10-17-2024 - Partial Agreement on the Promotion of Political Rights and Electoral Guarantees for All, in https://venezuelanalysis.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/garantias-electorales.pdf).
The opposition elects, following this route, its presidential candidate the following Sunday, resulting in the victory of the pre-candidate María Corina Machado (MCM). This thundered the regime like a nuclear bomb and from that moment on, it did the impossible for the candidate not to participate in this game because she would irremediably lose. It was not possible, under what was signed on October 17, with the unconditional support of the International Community, especially the US, for the regime to get its way in those elections (see Press Release of the Secretary of State Antony Blinken, in https://www.state.gov/signing-of-electoral-roadmap-between-the-unitary-platform-and-representatives-of-maduro/)
Seeing that this route is impossible, the regime decides to fabricate its own substitute game, let's say for our example, a game of "bolas criollas", where it decides its opposing teams, its referees, its rules and its own date for the elections, announcing to the country a new game, this time of "bolas criollas", where he decides with his submissive opposition a new electoral agreement, this time with tailor-made opponents (as if the previous ones were not, but less shameless), and outside what was decided in Barbados with the official opposition (see Legislative Branch and sectors of the country sign National Agreement on Guarantees and Schedule for the 2024 Presidential Elections, in https://www.asambleanacional.gob.ve/noticias/poder-legislativo-y-sectores-del-pais-firman-acuerdo-nacional-sobre-garantias-y-calendario-de-presidenciales-2024).
What do you think was the logical reaction to this event by the regime of those in the International Community who are serious and were constituted, like the US, as guarantors of the original Barbados Agreement? An immediate rejection: "The United States Government is seeing "negative signals" from the administration of Nicolás Maduro, in relation to the agreed commitment to free elections in the Caribbean nation, which could mean that the sanctions on the oil sector would not be reversed" (see in Spanish 800News, U.S. sees "negative signs" of non-compliance with Barbados agreement, 03-21-2024, in https://800noticias.com/eeuu-ve-senales-negativas-ante-incumplimiento-del-acuerdo-de-barbados). The world shouts that Maduro substituted the baseball game for a more convenient game of “bolas criollas”, more convenient for his interests, but the official opposition of the Unitary Platform accepts it and begins to play the game that Maduro decided instead of rejecting it forcefully, in spite of the expressed support of the International Community.
And it is in that game where the figure of MCM's "substitute" candidate, Dr. Corina Yoris, whose appearance in the political scene comes out as a result of acting under the pressure of the parties of the Unitary Platform to "bend over so as not to split", which threatened to use their cards to register Manuel Rosales or who knows what other piece of the disgusting political fauna that crawls in Venezuela, in order to follow the game of “bolas criollas” defined by the regime.
In other words, the true leader of the country's political opposition, whose political figure and weight was not born from those parties that lost by a landslide with her by more than 93% in the primaries, but from the legitimate desire for overwhelming change of the Venezuelan opposition people, decides to follow that diabolical game of “bolas criollas” invented by the regime to demolish her, instead of imposing her own, based on the political power that 2.4 million Venezuelans endorsed her on October 22, 2023. Does that make any sense to you? Because for me it does not...
If there is any coincidence between the parties of the Unitary Platform and the regime -and there are many- it is to eliminate the possibility for MCM to become President of the Republic. And if they could not stop her with the primaries because it was impossible, they have given the regime the opportunity to do so by forcing her to appoint a substitute, who, whoever he may be, may be equally disqualified as she was, with any excuse, or worse, accepting it to better justify a fraud that would not be credible before the world if MCM were the candidate, not to mention that the regime will force that opposition that "bends over backwards not to split" from Henry Ramos Allup, so that only the candidate of their choice, as may well be Manuel Rosales, may be registered in their circus.
But I believe that the worst thing that has happened by accepting to designate a substitute, is not that MCM has chosen a certain person of her confidence to substitute her, but that by doing so, she HAS ACCEPTED THE CONDITIONS decided by the regime, by entering into that game of “bolas criollas” to substitute an inclusive election -the real baseball game- that had been negotiated and signed in Barbados, where she should in justice be accepted because there is no sentence implying political disqualification hanging over her. And this acceptance was made using the NON ENDOSABLE votes given to her by the Venezuelans.
On the other hand, to the same extent, she ends up accepting the trampling of her political rights and those of those of us who, like her, voted for a unitary candidate who would represent us in a fair electoral process that had already been negotiated. That is a long swim to die on the shore…
Then, the real substitute is the game, which went from being one of baseball to one of “bolas criollas”, and which I baptized in my last note as "a badly rigged election", which if you take a retrospective look will take place in worse conditions than those we had in 2013 with Henrique Capriles, since the voters of the 8 million exiles did not participate in Venezuela, and the much more refined electoral fraud of the regime with the Electoral Registry and the centers of 1 and 2 tables that proliferated exponentially in the last electoral processes. Not to mention the forced disappearances throughout the country of the members of the technical and political team of the MCM campaign, including its National Directorate, the only ones capable of coordinating the process in favor of the substitute candidate.
To this point many will say that this is a pessimistic approach to the situation, that we can win with Dr. Yoris as a candidate. I respect that. But facts are facts and history is history. The regime once again got its way by pulling the opposition into its own lane with the little help of those who have always "bent over backwards". And this time, it has done it with the best electoral option we have had in years with MCM at the head. But the worst thing is not that. If MCM loses the elections through an interposed person, not only will its leadership vanish in the worst moments of the country, but it will have given the seal of quality to those bad elections of the regime, leaving the International Community with no excuses for not legitimizing Maduro. It sounds too elaborate to be a coincidence.
Remember that in 2013 Tibisay Lucena and her CNE never opened the ballot boxes because voting in Venezuela is automated and electronic voting prevails over the ballots of the voters, and upon the claim of Henrique Capriles they came out with a procedure that violated our electoral rights, preventing the total counting of the ballot boxes (see in Spanish, Las 12 Mil cajas de Tiby, in https://ticsddhh.blogspot.com/2013/04/las-12-mil-cajas-de-tiby.html).
In my opinion, it was a mistake to have accepted in the first place a set of “bolas criollas” as a substitute for the original baseball game agreed upon in Barbados. But that was what the "old politics" -as the regime calls it- imposed on the candidate until she buckled. The mere fact that an old political fox like Rafael Poleo has given his approval and blessing to MCM by comparing her to López Contreras and Betancourt, is the strongest proof of that course of action of "bending over backwards so as not to split" of Henry Ramos Allup that has led Venezuela to 25 years of destruction and suffering: "Mrs. María Corina Machado Parisca has just graduated as a member of the exclusive group of illustrious politicians that modern and contemporary Venezuela has had, whose initiators were Eleazar López Contreras and Rómulo Betancourt" (see @PoleoRafael on X, formerly Twitter, in https://twitter.com/PoleoRafael/status/1771315174785347779). For God's sake! Whoever doesn't know them should buy them and may God himself take us by confession....
